ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE INDEPENDENT ANALYST IN THE MATTER OF ASBESTOS

5 Jan 2016

Asbestos abatement is very important and in order to meet the latest requirements of the Health and Safety Authority in Ireland an independent analyst must follow strict guidelines for all asbestos sampling, analysis and clearance.

In the best case scenario the person commissioning the asbestos project is the one that works with the analytical body. This person is the one who should obtain the clearance certificate for the site reoccupation, and it’s very important to work with an independent and impartial analyst.

If an analyst (or an analytical body) has any links with the removal contractor other issues may appear. The analyst must demonstrate complete impartially when conducting the clearance certification. Note:  impartiality is extremely important.

Another area in which the role of the analyst is critically importance is the requirement that their in-house procedures are based on the ISE 17025 standard of General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.  INAB is the body providing this accreditation and at present, OHSS is the only company in Ireland holding this accreditation for four stage clearance testing.

The INAB assessments certify that OHSS has proficiency in the areas of organisation, environmental conditions, handling of test and calibration items, and reporting results.

The role of the independent analyst is much more complex that can be described through the situations mentioned above. He also needs to have all the recommended qualifications and have relevant knowledge of the Irish legislation concerning this domain.

OHSS is the most qualified and competent organisation available in Ireland today, to work with on Asbestos related matters. For unbiased and complete analysis, call us today and find out what your next step is whenever Asbestos is involved.
