IOSH MSCPS Training




Overview


The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has developed a series of certified programmes designed to promote protection from workplace hazards at every level. IOSH programmes are founded on best practice, as well as legislation – this ensures that the courses are relevant internationally.


The IOSH Managing Safely for Construction Project Supervisors course has been designed by OHSS according to IOSH guidelines to provide training for those with a specific responsibility in Project Supervisor for Design Process (PSDP) and Project Supervisor for Construction Stage (PSCS) within the construction industry. It is based on the IOSH Managing Safely course tailored to meet the specific requirements of those working in the construction industry and is IOSH approved.


The course is designed to give those acting in the role of PSDP and PSCS the knowledge and skills necessary to recognise the hazards likely to be present in construction projects and the actions needed to control and manage them.

 

Learning Objectives
On completion of this course, participants will be able to:


 

  • Outline relevant health and safety legislation and specific legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes and know where to find information sources and guidance on compliance
  • Explain how legal duties translate into managerial responsibilities
  • Distinguish between the duties and responsibilities of the employer and the employee, client and sub-contractor
  • Be able to verify the competence of contractors and sub-contractors
  • Have an understanding of risk assessment and risk control, identifying common and specific hazards relative to the industry
  • Be able to select workplace precautions relative to the hazards and record results of risk assessments and prepare method statements
  • Know the statutory requirements for reporting and recording accidents and incidents
  • Understand the principles of accident/incident investigation, importance of crisis management and the role of the Gardai and HSA in investigations
  • Know the importance of continuous active monitoring and how to implement an active monitoring programme
  • Identify training needs

 

Who Should Attend?
Managers and senior staff who have responsibility for safety management, in particular in the role of PSDP and PSCS.

 

Course Content
The course comprises of seven modules:

  1. Accident / Incident ill-health causation, investigation and crisis management
  2. Legislation
  3. Risk assessment and safety management
  4. Reactive monitoring
  5. Active monitoring
  6. Controlling common workplace hazards
  7. Human factors
     

Course Output
The IOSH certificate will be issued to those who have successfully completed the Institution’s approved assessment – a 45 minute written assessment paper and an assessed project.


Course Duration : 5 days.  This includes tuition, exercises, mock assessments and a final assessment. The delivery timetable can be scheduled in one continuous session or as a number of days per month.   Where necessary the course may be delivered at weekends to suit particular client needs.
